Full route only possible for canoeists

With canoes the short waterway from Warffum to Uithuizen, via the Helwerdermaar, is completely navigable. Only canoeists can therefore sail the entire route. Larger boats are unfortunately not able to make a round trip, because of a dam / culvert that was placed in the Helwerdermaar near Holwinde in 2013, instead of a bridge. 

At the campsites Maarlandhoeve and Zuiderhorn it is possible to have a electrically powered boat to rent. This allows you to relive large parts of the old trekvaart route in peace and quiet.

Boat ramps along the routes are available in Uithuizen, Middelstum, Onderdendam and Warffum, where the sloop or other boat can be launched and taken out of the water. You can also decide yourself if you are with your own boat how to sail the route.

As a paddler, get out every now and then and for a nice short walk. A nice addition in combination with sailing.
